Inaugural Sports Management Sustainable Development Goals Competition Success
At the end of last year, our newest undergraduate major, Sports Management, held their inaugural Sustainable Development Goals Competition. Three student teams presented their sustainable project ideas to a large audience and three professional sports judges; Artis Twyman, VP of Communications at the Los Angeles Rams, Jeff Moeller, Senior Director of Communications at LA Kings, and Karina Herold,VP of Major Events at Los Angeles Sports & Entertainment Commission. Best Project was awarded to students Sean Blandino, and Paris Riggio, with their Multi-Purpose Youth Sport Facility Proposal. |

Fireside Chat with Don Armstrong, CEO of Vitu
The Fireside Chat event series is designed to give School of Management clubs and associations members the opportunity to have an intimate conversation with a C-level executives. In November, we welcomed a Dean’s Executive CouncilMember, Cal Lutheran alumnus, and founder and CEO of Vitu, a high-growth technology company based in Agoura Hills, Don Armstrong. The event was attended by students from our Accounting Association, American Marketing Association, Delta Sigma Pi, Financial Planning Association, IT Club, Investment Club, PIHRA, Rotaract, Business of Sports Club, Startup CLU, and Women in Business. |

Dorfman Scholars Meet Steve Dorfman
On November 10, University Advancement hosted an afternoon tea reception for Steve Dorfman and partner Carol Kieschnick to meet with the current group of Dorfman Scholars. Each year after a rigorous selection among School of Management admitted School of Management students, one Dorfman Scholar receives a 100% and another 75% scholarship, which Mr. Steve Dorfman generously funds. At the reception, our donor and 2021 scholars Elsa Klubberudand Elaine Vo, as well as 2022 scholars Jacqueline Brandon and Eryn Hart, shared stories and enjoyed each other’s company. Our thanks go to VP Regina Biddings-Muro, Maria Paredes, and Betsy Jeu de Vine in University Advancement for organizing the event. |

Welcoming New Faculty to SOM!
A very warm welcome to our newest faculty colleagues. Tracy Nickl is currently finalizing her Ph.D. at the University of Antwerp in Belgium and the Management Center Innsbruck (MCI), in Austria. She is a senior business executive with 30+ years of experience in the financial and healthcare industries. She recently completed a college teaching program to evolve her teaching and mentoring skills for first-generation and diverse college students, which she became passionate about after participating in a mentoring program with KPMG and Stanford for first-generation STEM girls. Her research has been presented at the American Marketing Association Academic Conference and multiple European academic conferences, and she often guest lectures on personal branding.
Adrijana Sekulovic has served as a sociology and criminal justice adjunct professor at Cal Lutheran since 2018 and joins us with an international experience of teaching in France and Saudi Arabia. Thanks to her fluency in six different languages and strong advocacy for athletes’ rights, she has acquired an international sports consultancy expertise in sports agency and representation, athletes’ protection, contract counseling, and Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL). She holds a bachelor’s in business administration and foreign languages from Paris Sorbonne University, a master’s in economics and research and development of Sub-Saharan Africa from EHESS, a master’s in Kinesiology and a doctorate in Sports Studies from Paris Ouest Nanterre University. |

Delta Sigma Pi Continues to Grow, Welcoming New Members
Last semester, Delta Sigma Pi (DSP), the campus chapter of the co-educational business fraternity at the School of Management, held the initiation ceremony for its new members. Delta Sigma Pi was founded in 1907 at the School of Commerce, Accounts, and Finance at New York University. Today, it has more than 200 collegiate chapters and more than 300,000 members in the United States. The chapter at Cal Lutheran is chaired by School of Management students Claire Cornejo (President) and Emma Sweeney (Vice-President), and guided by faculty advisors Kyle McIntosh (Director, MBA, EMBA, and MSM programs), Paul Witman (Information Technology), and Tim Weaver (Adjunct Professor). |

Alumna Features on Popular Nickelodeon Show
If you spend time around young children, chances are you know the Nickelodeon show, Blue’s Clues. Next time you see it, look out for Rainbow Puppy, played by a School of Management Business Administration alumna! It may not be a typical career move with a Business degree. Still, Brianna Bryan’s entrepreneurial skills, through her participation in our New Venture Competition and the Entrepreneurship Club, helping her to get to where she is. Read more here. |

Alice Galstian, CFO, Joins Dean’s Executive Council
Alice Galstian joins us as a new member of the Dean’s Executive Council at the School of Management. Alice is the Vice President of Finance and Administration and CFO of the Kavli Foundation. The foundation is one of the most prestigious international philanthropic organizations supporting and funding research in the scientific fields of astrophysics, nanoscience, neuroscience, and theoretical physics in the United States, Europe, and Asia. She oversees the business and operational sides of the foundation. Previously, Alice was the Associate Dean and Chief Financial Officer at the USC Gould School of Law for 15 years. Before USC, Alice held management and consulting positions with several organizations ranging in size from multi-billion dollar publicly traded companies to small private companies. Alice has served as President of the USC Marshall Alumni Association. She has earned an executive certificate from the Yale School of Management’s Women’s Leadership Program, an MBA from the USC Marshall School of Business, and a BBA from Pace University. Alice started her career at KPMG, where she earned her CPA license. |
