OXNARD — Clinicas del Camino Real, Inc. will be expanding vaccination efforts to their Maravilla Health Center, located at 450 Clara St. Oxnard CA 93033, in South Oxnard this weekend. A total of 1,000 vaccines will be administered to Clinicas’ patients Saturday March 6, and Sunday March 7, from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Walk-ups will not be accepted at this particular event as all availabilities have been electronically reserved by eligible patients.
Through Operation Warp Speed, The County of Ventura Department of Public Health (VCDPH) is responsible for distributing vaccines received by the State of California. To date, the county has provided 3,297 doses of the Pfizer vaccine. Clinicas has administered 1,276 initial doses to patients, health care workers, first responders and other target populations eligible under Phase 1A and Phase 1B, at the Paseo Camarillo Health Center in Camarillo. At this time 755 individuals have successfully received their second dose. As a participant of the Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) Vaccination Program, by the federal Human Resources & Services Administration (HRSA), FQHC’s like Clinicas have been working to prioritize essential workers; especially farmworkers. Clinicas del Camino Real, Inc. will continue to vaccinate eligible populations at its’ clinic locations across Ventura County.
As efforts by the state and federal government continue to substantially increase the supply of vaccines, expanded hours and weekend events like these will accelerate the vaccination rate as new variants of the COVID-19 virus continue to be found across Ventura County and the United States. Currently, supplies of vaccines are limited as the state and county work to identify which 1B subgroups to prioritize. Clinicas will be announcing future events scheduled to take place throughout the next few months as Phase 1B expands on March, 15. Clinicas del Camino Real, Inc. will continue to directly contact eligible patients, via phone and text message, to schedule appointments in English, Spanish, and Mixteco.
At this time, individuals designated as “critical infrastructure” employees are of highest priority and include teachers, childcare providers, grocery store employees and those who work in the food and agriculture industries. Throughout the pandemic, COVID-19 has continued to greatly impact farmworkers living in the 93030 and 93033 area codes. Clinicas del Camino Real, Inc. will continue to advocate at the state and federal level for an increase in direct allocations of vaccines to supply special events, focused on vaccinating vulnerable populations, like these in the near future.
Despite the phenomenal economic contributions farmworkers, and other essential workers have made, COVID-19 cases and deaths continue to rise. The majority of these populations across Ventura County, and California, are Latino and understand the importance of receiving the vaccination. Their work is essential, and critical, in ensuring national security by providing food security. As the largest provider of healthcare services to farmworkers in Ventura County, and across the nation, Clinicas del Camino Real, Inc. will continue to advocate that impacted populations receive the level of prioritization they have earned and truly deserve.
