City of Oxnard to Honor Community Relations Commission Award Recipients for Outstanding Accomplishments on Feb. 19

OXNARD — The City of Oxnard Community Relations Commission (CRC) will honor all five recipients of the commission’s Community Recognition Awards program for accomplishments made during 2018. The awards will be presented on Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2019, as part of the ceremonial calendar item of the City Council meeting.  Council meetings are held at the Council Chambers, 305 W. Third Street, 1st Floor, in downtown Oxnard.  The meeting is open to the public and is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.

The public is invited to help honor the award recipients which include the following:

  • Bertha Garcia (Outstanding Individual)
  • Martha “Martita” Garcia (Outstanding Senior)
  • Christopher Ehrman (Outstanding Youth)
  • Vanessa Teran with the Mixteco/Indigena Community Organizing Project (Outstanding Community-Based Organization)
  • Jose Reveles with Commercial Auto Body (Outstanding Business).

The CRC’s community awards program recognizes individuals and groups that have furthered human relations in the Oxnard community. Honorees are awarded every year and the public is invited to participate by nominating in each of the five categories.

The CRC is a citizen advisory group for the City of Oxnard. Seven members are appointed by City Council to identify and advise council on problems of discrimination in the community and to promote better human relations among all city residents through educational and cultural activities.
