The Symposium “Cinco de Mayo: Twenty-First Century Perspectives,” will be presented from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Friday, May 4 at the University of California, Santa Babara in Mosher House — Alumni Hall.
Presented by 150 De Mayo Puebla Defensa de la Patria Unidad Nacional, the event features welcoming addresses by María Herrera-Sobek, Associate Vice Chancellor, UC Santa Barbara; Rogelio Flores Mejía, Mexican Consul, Oxnard and Laura Romo, director, Chicano Studies Institute.
Lic. Manuel Antonio Díaz Cid, University of Puebla, will present the keynote address: “La Doctrina del Gran Designio, la Intervención Francesa y la Batalla del 5 de Mayo”
Panel discussions are then scheduled with the program concluding with the film screening of : 5 de Mayo. La Batalla de Puebla.”
