Children’s Day/Dia de los Niños set for April 21 in Oxnard

Children’s Day, Dia de los Niños, with the Mixteco/ Indigena Community Organizing Project!, will be held from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Saturday, April 21 at Harrington Elementary School, 2501 Gisler St., Oxnard, the organization reported recently in a media release.

MICOP will hold the same event from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 21 at Rio Real Elementary School, 1140 Kenny St., Oxnard.

Volunteers are needed from noon to 5 p.m. to help pack food bags, said Donna Foster, MICOP’s operations manager.

“The event celebrates children and emphasizes the importance of children’s literacy. At the event, we will distribute books to each child, and teach parents to read aloud with their kids,” Foster said.

“Please consider sponsoring our Día de los Niños celebration. All sponsorship funds will pay for picture book gifts for each Mixteco child who attends. All sponsors who donate $100 or more will have the opportunity to display their organization’s banner and have an information table at our event. You are welcome to join us and advertise for your organization, or send volunteers to help with children’s reading circles or other activities.”
