Channel Islands Maritime Museum to Celebrate 30th Anniversary in 2021

OXNARD — The Channel Islands Maritime Museum is proud to announce that it will be celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2021. The Museum, which has served as a cultural hub in the Channel Islands Harbor since 1991, has a full calendar of events and exhibits planned as part of the anniversary year.

The dream of art collector and businessman Harry Nelson and his friend Martin V. (Bud) Smith, the Museum opened its doors in February of 1991 to rave reviews. Channel Islands Maritime Museum features works of fine maritime art dating back to the 1600s, ship models, and other maritime artifacts. The Museum has presented a wide variety of informative and engaging temporary exhibitions during its first 30 years as well as sponsoring large community events. The Museum is also visited by hundreds of local students each year.

The Museum is planning a year full of activities (and, hopefully, in-person events for later in the year). It will be starting off the year with a Grub & Grog (Food and Drink) Recipe Contest. The Museum will be accepting food and rum drink recipes beginning on January 1, 2021. Lance Thomas of Black Bart’s Navy Rum will be among the “grog” recipe judges. Black Bart’s Navy Rum is the sponsor of the grog portion of the contest. Local chef and caterer, Cathie Moreno, will be one of the “grub” recipe judges. Contest participants will be asked to send the written recipe for their entry along with a photograph of the entry. The contest will be virtual in light of any possible restrictions still in place in January. For details and rules on the contest, please go to cimmvc.org starting December 21st.

February will be the Museum’s “I ?My Maritime Museum” month. The Museum will be asking its friends, supporters, and local community members to share their thoughts on what they love about the Museum. Anyone who participates in the event (in-person (if allowed) or virtually) will have their name entered into a drawing for a chance to win a one-year Lieutenant-level Museum Membership along with a BlueFin Gifts swag bag. For more details, please go to cimmvc.org.
