Everyone deserves clean air, safe water, and a healthy community – no matter your race, income, or zip code. But right now, low-income communities and communities of color are still being hit first and worst by pollution and climate change.

Environmental justice means we don’t just survive – we thrive. It means organizing, speaking out, and demanding bold changes that put our health, our safety, and our futures first. And this month, you’ve got three powerful ways to take action with our community:

Speak Up at the State Lands Commission – Monday, April 14

On April 2, community members packed the State Lands Commission meeting in Oxnard with one urgent demand: shut down the Ormond Beach Power Plant and stop the flow of toxic pollution into our air and coastline. We made it clear – we will not stand by while our health and environment are sacrificed. The Commission delayed their decision with a 2-1 vote, but next week, we have a critical opportunity to end this environmental injustice for good.

On Monday, April 14, the State Lands Commission will hold a Special Meeting in Sacramento – this is our chance to shut the plant down. New federal executive orders may threaten to extend operations until 2045, which could lock in nearly 20 more years of toxic emissions and harm to our communities. This is a make-or-break moment. If the Commission rejects the lease, we can begin the path toward clean air and justice. We must act now. Raise your voice and join us virtually on Monday to help shut Ormond Beach Generating Station down once and for all.

Join the CPUC Meeting – Tuesday, April 15

Ventura’s Westside is on the frontlines of a proposed expansion of the SoCalGas compressor station – just across the street from E.P. Foster Elementary. We know this facility is dangerous, and we know what’s at stake.

On Tuesday, April 15 from 6:30–7:30 PM, the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) will host a hybrid meeting to hear public input on the environmental review process. We need your voice in the room to demand that CPUC fully address the health and safety risks and study better alternatives for our community.
