Oxnard City Councilmember Carmen Ramirez will officially begin her campaign for mayor of Oxnard with a press conference at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, April 26 in front of the Oxnard Public Library, 251 So. A St., Oxnard.
“I believe I can continue to make a positive difference in Oxnard’s future,” Ramirez stated in a media release. “I am proud to be a resident of Oxnard and will continue to dedicate my efforts to make sure that this is a city we can all be proud to live and work in. I offer the voters a clear choice of my vision for a healthier Oxnard in every way. I offer my skills, experience and commitment to this city and its residents.”
Ramirez has served the community since 1978, providing access to justice to the working families of Oxnard through her work as a legal aid attorney and with the Superior Court of Ventura’s Oxnard Self Help Legal Access Center, according to the media release.
Her priorities include revitalizing downtown and the local economy; public safety, which includes fully staffed and resourced fire and police departments, beautification of all neighborhoods and attention to the needs of the youth of Oxnard. She was a leader of the successful effort to stop the building of a natural gas terminal off the coast of Oxnard.
She continues to work for the restoration of Oxnard’s coastal wetlands at Ormond Beach and the full clean up of the Halaco toxic waste pile near the wetlands, this effort will also revitalize Oxnard’s economy, creating a world class tourist destination, Ramirez said.
During her tenure on the city council since December 2010, she has worked to bring transparency and accountability to city government as well as for better land use planning for a more livable Oxnard, she said.
