CANCELED: March 18 — CIMM Response to Coronavirus – Museum Closure

Speaker Barbara Tomblin, Naval Historian and Author, will not speak at the Channel Islands Maritime Museum Speaker Series on March 18th – Event Canceled

OXNARD — In light of the public safety concerns surrounding the spread of COVID-19, the Channel Islands Maritime Museum has decided to cancel speaker Barbara Tomblin on March 18.   Also, in response to the coronavirus public health emergency, the Channel Islands Maritime Museum will be closed starting Saturday, March 14 to the public to minimize the spread of COVID-19. The Museum will reassess the public health situation before March 23rd.

The safety of our visitors and staff is our top priority, and we will continue to monitor new developments closely. We will provide updates on our website and social media accounts.

About Barbara Tomblin: Barbara Tomblin is a naval and military historian and author of several books including G.I. Nightingales, With Utmost Spirit, Bluejackets and Contrabands, and The Civil War on the Mississippi. She has a doctorate in American history from Rutgers University, New Brunswick, New Jersey where she was a lecturer in military history.

Channel Islands Maritime Museum: Located in Oxnard’s Channel Islands Harbor at 3900 Bluefin Circle, the Museum’s galleries feature rare and beautiful maritime paintings dating back to the 1600’s, more than sixty world-class models of historic ships, rotating thematic fine arts exhibitions, and interactive exhibits that encourage visitors to expand their horizons about everything maritime. The Museum is open Monday and Thursday through Saturday 10 am-4 pm and Sunday from 12 pm-4 pm. The Museum is closed on Tuesday and Wednesday for group tours and private member events (please call ahead to make a reservation), closed Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day.
