CAMARILLOSarah Oberman, the founder of private jet charter company TruNorth Jets, has been recognized as one of the top 40 young aviation business professionals in the country by the National Business Aviation Association (NBAA).

Oberman just received the 2024 NBAA Business Aviation Top 40 Under 40 award, which recognizes emerging leaders who are actively helping shape the future of business aviation. She joins an esteemed group of young professionals driving real change in the aviation industry and setting the standard through impactful contributions.

The NBAA Young Professionals (YoPro) Council receives hundreds of nominations for the award each year. In 2024, the organization received a record number of nominations across nine career categories. The council carefully reviews each submission and selects candidates based on their community involvement, professional achievements, innovative mindset, and commitment to the business aviation community.

“I am immensely honored to receive this award,” Oberman said. “It has long been a dream of mine to obtain this prestigious recognition, and it’s both inspiring and humbling to be among such incredible talent.”

TruNorth Jets operates private jet services out of California’s Camarillo Airport, and New Mexico’s Santa Fe Municipal Airport and Albuquerque International Sunport Airport. The company serves clients’ business and leisure travel needs within the United States and also to Europe, Mexico, the Bahamas and beyond, providing the efficiencies of smaller airports and the exclusive benefits of private aviation. Each experience is customized to a client’s individual needs and can be organized within a short time window.

Oberman launched TruNorth Jets in January 2022 in Camarillo, after many years of exemplary and innovative work in the charter airline and flight school business. She got started in aviation in her youth, washing planes and working the front desk for her family’s business, Channel Islands Aviation. After graduating from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo with a business management degree in 2006, she came back to run her family’s flight school, where she found creative ways to increase the number of flight school students, helping the company weather the Great Recession. She eventually became the firm’s Chief Marketing Officer.

As the owner of TruNorth Jets, Oberman takes great pride in building relationships with her clients and has developed a loyal and growing customer base. She has also established strong relationships with her company’s network of aircraft operators, ensuring competitive pricing, safe aircraft, and reliable crews. In 2023, she expanded her company’s operations to New Mexico.

“I love the relationships I build with my clients and industry peers,” Oberman said. “I find it very rewarding when I find great value for my charter clients, see that they’re happy with my services and when they refer business back to me.”

Outside of managing her business, Oberman uses her experience to advocate for others in her industry. In 2018 she testified before Congress about pilot shortages. She gave voice to the concerns of small aviation businesses and flight schools, sharing with Congress how changes in pilot hiring practices across the industry were leading to a shortage of flight instructors, aircraft mechanics and charter pilots.

Oberman has also been active in the development of kidSTREAM, a children’s museum for Ventura County scheduled to open soon. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, cooking, wine, exercising and spending time with friends and family, including her young son.
