VENTURA COUNTY — The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Oxnard and Port Hueneme installed its 62nd Board of Directors and honored staff and board members at its annual installation and staff appreciation dinner at the Martin V. Smith Clubhouse on July 21.
Joanna Garcia, long-time BGCOP member and 2016 Youth of the Year candidate, administered the service oath to 2016-2017 board, with executive positions held by: Board Chair Nancy Mayerson, Mayerson Marketing & Public Relations; Immediate Past Board Chair Richard Duarte, youth advocate; Vice Chair P. Robert Page, Wells Fargo Bank; Treasurer;Veronica Quintana, CBIZ MHM, LLC and Secretary Robert L. Sills, youth advocate. Martin T. Laurie, Commander Master Chief at NBVC, was announced as a liaison to the board.
Executive committee members include: Sean L. Leonard, S.L. Leonard & Associates; Don Facciano, youth advocate; Michael Barber, Santa to the Sea Half Marathon and Ronald J. Rowen, RJR & Associates.
Board members installed were: Dr. Catherine Chien, Oxnard Children’s Dental; Danielle Everson, Clark*Everson Law; Steve Kinney, youth advocate; Kathleen Looman, Gene Haas Foundation; Lisa Marmion, Saalex Solutions; Michael Orman, Ojai Community Bank; Carmen Ramos-Soriano, City National Bank; Theodore J. Schneider, Schneiders & Associates, L.L.P.; Gregory Siuta, Booz Allen Hamilton; Dr. Jennifer Twyford, California Lutheran University; Rigoberto Vargas, Ventura County Public Health; Anthony Volante, youth advocate and David R. Wellik, Citizens Business Bank.
Bill Powell received the 2016 Volunteer Service Award for his commitment to the Club. Robert L. Sills was honored as Board Member of the Year for going above and beyond to help the organization reach its goals, while Veronica Quintana received the Rookie Board Member of the Year Award for the devotion and service she has given in her first year as a board member. Other awards included a Helping Hand Award, given to Ronald J. Rowen and the From the Heart Award presented to P. Robert Page.
Honors were also given to board members who celebrated five or more years of service to the Boys & Girls Clubs. Robert L. Sills received the 5-year service to youth award, Nancy Mayerson was awarded a 10-year service to youth award, Richard Duarte a 15-year service to youth award and Dean Maulhardt received the 20-year service to youth award.
Additional staff honors were presented to Terrell Penny, Youth Development Professional; Juan Fredrickson, Music Director; Claudia Arellano, Y.E.P. Case Specialist; Erin Pierik, Development Director; Brittany Bybee, Youth Development Professional and Luz Elena Zamora, Youth Development Professional for embodying BGCOP’s core values of Caring, Excellence, Communication, Innovation, Leadership and Accountability.
The Boys & Girls Club has served the youth of Oxnard and Port Hueneme for over 60 years. With three full-service clubs and 18 school program sites, the organization is one of the largest of its kind in California. The Club provides programs for more than 9,200 youth and teens in three priority outcome areas: Academic Success, Good Character and Citizenship, and Healthy Lifestyles.
