SANTA MARIA — The Board of the Northern Santa Barbara County Athletic Round-table will award scholarships to two Pioneer Valley High School athletes at Supervisor Steve Lavagnino’s office on May 26.
Lauren Carandang earned the Female Athlete of the Year Scholarship ($1,000) and Christian Morin nailed down the Joni Gray “Heart and Soul” Scholarship ($1,500). Carandang ran track and X-country. Morin played football, basketball and baseball.
Panther Athletic Director Jeff Monteiro praised the pair for their leadership and dedication.
“Out of all the athletes of each of the Northern Santa Barbara County High schools and Allan Hancock (ten schools total-thousands of athletes), there is only five awards from five categories, and only one award for each category,’’ Monteiro said. “Only five students received these five awards we have two of the five.”
The event will happen at 10 a.m.
