VENTURA COUNTY — With March 5, 2024, Election Day less than a week away, Michelle Ascencion, Registrar of Voters, and her Elections team are not only planning for the busy voting days that remain ahead, they are also preparing for the long night of election results reporting that follows. The 8:00 p.m. official close of the Election starts the clock when candidates, voters and the media all start looking for the first ballot count results to be reported.
The first results posted shortly after 8:00 p.m. are from ballots that have been verified and processed up to 29 days before the election in accordance with Election Code §15101. The report contains the vote-by-mail ballots received before Election Day and those cast in-person at early voting locations. Election results appear on the Election Night Reporting page at VenturaVote.org, with links posted on social media (@VCClerkRecorder), and simultaneously sent out to various news outlets. Additionally, the first results must be reported to the Secretary of State within two hours of the 8:00 p.m. close of the Election.
Subsequent results posted on Election Night reflect the counting of in-person ballots cast at voting locations on Election Day. This includes ballots from all 51 Vote Centers open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. throughout the County and those cast in the Elections Office at the Government Center which doubles as a Vote Center on Election Day.
Vote Center ballot delivery times will vary for a number of reasons. If there are any voters still in line at 8:00 p.m., that Vote Center will remain open until they are served. The timing of the return of ballots from the Vote Centers can also depend on various other factors including site layout, distance, weather and traffic.
Despite the unpredictable ballot arrival times, the new Registrar of Voters is planning to release updates on a scheduled basis.
“We’re going to try something new on Election Night with reporting our updated results,” said Registrar Ascencion. ”Everyone is interested in the latest results but constantly refreshing your browser to see if they’re posted yet is tiring and frustrating. So we are going to try scheduled updates to help everyone out.”
The second results of the evening will be posted at 10:00 p.m. and updates will follow close to the top of every hour until all Vote Center totals have been reported.
The expected March 5, 2024, Election Night Reporting Schedule follows. If there are changes, they will be announced as soon as possible.

El cierre oficial de las elecciones es a las 8:00 p.m. inicia el tiempo cuando los candidatos, los votantes y los medios de comunicacio?n comienzan a buscar los primeros resultados del conteo de boletas que se informara?n.
Los primeros resultados publicados poco despue?s de las 8:00 p.m. son de boletas que han sido verificadas y procesadas hasta 29 di?as antes de la eleccio?n de acuerdo con el Co?digo Electoral §15101.
