VENTURA COUNTY — This week, the Ventura County Elections Division will begin mailing notification cards to the nearly 113,000 County voters who are registered without a qualified political party. The notification cards will explain how No Party Preference (NPP) voters can request a ballot that includes the presidential contest.
All March 5, 2024 primary election ballots will have contests for U.S. Senator, U.S. Representative, State Senator, State Assembly Member, Judges of the Superior Court, County Supervisors (if applicable), and state and local measures. However, only voters registered with a political party will have a ballot listing the party-specific contests for the office of U.S. President and County Central Committee members.
- Voters registered with a political party preference will receive a ballot with that party’s contests.
- No Party Preference Voters have the following ballot options:
- NPP voters who take no action will receive a non-partisan ballot with no Presidential or County Central Committee contests listed.
- NPP voters can re-register with any qualified political party to receive a ballot with all of that party’s contests. For the Green, Peace and Freedom, and Republican Parties, ONLY registered party voters can receive a ballot with their party’s contests.
- NPP voters can also request a one-time “crossover” ballot with the presidential candidates of the American Independent, Democratic, or Libertarian party. NPP voters will remain registered with no party preference.
Any voter can change their political party preference atRegistertovote.ca.gov or by completing a paper registration form. Voters who re-register by February 20, 2024 can still receive their ballot by mail. After that, voters must re-register in person at a vote center or at the Elections Division (Ventura County Government Center, Hall Of Administration, 800 S. Victoria Ave., Ventura).
“Presidential Primaries have unique rules and we know it can get confusing – especially since these rules are only in place once every four years,” said Michelle Ascencion, County Clerk-Recorder and Registrar of Voters. “We’re getting the word out to No Party Preference voters with the notification cards, social media, the Election Education Series to the Board of Supervisors, and the website. We want every registered voter to have the information and access they need to exercise their lawful vote.”
No Party Preference voters should receive their notification cards by November 27. Todas las boletas de las elecciones primarias del 5 de marzo de 2024 tendrán las contiendas para Senador de los EE. UU., Representante de los EE. UU., Senador Estatal, Miembro de la Asamblea Estatal, Jueces del Tribunal Superior,Supervisores del Condado de Ventura, de ser aplicable y las medidas estatales y locales. Sin embargo, solamente los votantes inscritos con un partido político tendrán una boleta alistando las contiendas de un partido específico para el cargo de Presidente de los EE. UU. y miembros de losComités Centrales del Condado.
- Los votantes inscritos con un partido político recibirán una boleta con las contiendas de aquel partido.
- Votantes Sin Preferencia de Partido tienen las siguientes opciones de boleta:
- Los votantes NPP que no toman acción recibirán una boleta no partidista sin contiendas de Presidente y Comité Central del Condado.
- Los votantes NPP se pueden reinscribirse con cualquier partido político calificado para recibir una boleta con todas las contiendas de aquel partido. Para los Partidos Verde, Paz y Libertad, y Republicano, SOLAMENTE los votantes inscritos con su partido pueden recibir una boleta con las contiendas de su partido.
- Los votantes NPP también pueden pedir una boleta cruzada por una vez con los candidatos del partido Independiente Americano, Demócrata, o Libertario. Los votantes NPP quedarán inscritos sin preferencia de partido.
Cualquier votante puede cambiar su preferencia de partido político en Registertovote.ca.gov o al completar una solicitud en papel. Los votantes que reinscriban para el 20 de febrero de 2024 todavía pueden recibir su boleta por correo. Después, los votantes deben reinscribirse en persona en un centro de votación o en la División de Elecciones (Centro del Gobierno del Condado de Ventura, Edificio de Administración, 800 S. Victoria Ave., Ventura).

Los votantes Sin Preferencia de Partido deben de recibir sus tarjetas de notificación para el 27 de noviembre.
