County of Ventura Appoints New Director of Ventura County Animal Services
The County of Ventura has selected Esteban Rodriguez as Director for Ventura County Animal Services. The appointment follows an extensive recruitment process, which included both internal and external candidates. Rodriguez succeeds former director, Jackie Rose, who retired from the agency in May.
Rodriguez brings 16 years’ experience in animal welfare, having held various positions across municipal shelters. His diverse career includes leadership roles at several major shelters across the country, including in Dallas, San Antonio, Austin, Tucson, Santa Barbara, and most recently, as the Executive Director of the Seattle Animal Shelter. His wide-ranging experience includes overseeing operations, field services, and community outreach, all focused on progressive, lifesaving practices. |

County of Ventura’s Procurement Division Recognized with 25th Consecutive National Award for Excellence |
In a remarkable milestone that underscores the County of Ventura’s dedication to exceptional public service, for the 25th year in a row the General Services Agency (GSA) Procurement Division earned the prestigious Annual Achievement of Excellence in Procurement® (AEP) from the National Procurement Institute.
The County of Ventura is among an elite group of only 49 counties out of the over 3,100 counties in the entire United States to receive this honor in 2024 and only 1 other entity has ever won more awards than the County of Ventura. “Twenty-five consecutive AEP awards are a tremendous accomplishment and a reflection of the enduring dedication and collaborative spirit of our entire GSA Procurement team,” said Cliff Chroust, County Chief Procurement Officer. “I’m grateful to everyone who plays a pivotal role in our continued success. Series of Public Meetings for Ventura County Regional Consolidated Plan
The public is invited to attend a meeting to hear information and provide input on the Ventura County Regional Consolidated Plan for 2025-2029.
We need YOUR input to help shape important decisions on future housing projects, community services, and local funding opportunities. Your feedback will directly impact how grants are allocated and used to improve our neighborhoods — from affordable housing, help for the homeless — to programs assisting seniors and persons with disabilities.
Public input will be compiled and considered by city councils and the County Board of Supervisors as they finalize the regional plan for submission to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). In collaboration with: the County of Ventura and the following municipalities, Ventura, Oxnard, Ojai, Port of Hueneme, Santa Paula, Camarillo, Moorpark, Thousand Oaks, Fillmore and Simi Valley.

County of Ventura Public Information Office Recognized for Excellence in Government Video Programming
The County of Ventura’s Public Information Office was awarded first place for Election Coverage in the Star Awards from the National Association of Telecommunications Officers and Advisors – Southern California and Nevada Chapter.
The video, titled “Preparing for the Presidential Primary” was produced by the Public Information team along with County of Ventura Clerk-Recorder and Registrar of Voters Michelle Ascension to help guide voters through the primary election process. (Watch the attached video)
These awards recognize excellence in government video programming in 41 categories including Community Event Coverage, Best City | County Services Information Video, Human Interest, Public Safety, PSA, Sports Programming, Social Media, Election Coverage, Parks & Recreation and more. Video projects must have been done in-house at a public agency in California or Nevada. |

County of Ventura Sustainability Division Seeks Public Input for Regional Climate Action Plan

The County of Ventura CEO Sustainability Division is leading the development of a Regional Climate Action Plan for Ventura County. The County is collaborating with the cities, special districts, and community-based organizations on this project and is seeking community input as well.
Please fill out the Community Input Form by clicking the button below and tell us your climate action priorities for consideration to be incorporated into our plan!
Community members who submit feedback by November 1st will be eligible to receive a $20 gift card. Five individuals will be randomly selected to receive a gift card.
Funding for this project is provided through the Federal Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA’s) Climate Pollution Reduction Grants (CPRG) program.

AGENCY SPOTLIGHT – Resource Management Agency
The primary goal of the Resource Management Agency is to protect the health, safety and welfare of the general public through administration and enforcement of County ordinances, Board policy, and state and federal laws regarding land use, and commercial and environmental regulation.
The agency oversees several divisions responsible for managing various aspects of the county including: environmental health, planning, building & safety, code compliance, weights & measures, building/land use enforcement, operations and RMA geographic information system.
