County Leadership “Take 5 and Read to Kids”
During the month of May, the County of Ventura united with First 5 Ventura County for the “Take 5 and Read to Kids!” Campaign. Department leaders from the County Executive Office, Ventura County Sheriff’s Office Ventura County Fire Department Ventura County District Attorney’s Office to Ventura County Public Health took time out to read to children countywide.
Brain research shows that the prenatal period and first five years of a child’s life are critical for developing lifelong social, emotional and learning skills. Based on this research, California voters passed Proposition 10 (a tobacco tax) in 1998 which established First 5 county commissions throughout the state to improve health and education programs for children prenatal to 5 years of age.
By teaming up with First 5 Ventura County, we’re championing early literacy, fostering a love for learning, and building a brighter future, one book at a time.
