Teatro de las Américas continues its series of Readers’ Theater with the production of “Yerma” by Federico García Lorca, 8 p.m. Friday, May 20 at the Santa Paula Art Museum, 117 N. 10th St., Santa Paula; 8 p.m. Saturday, May 21 at Heritage Square Hall, 730 So. A St., Oxnard; and 5 p.m. Sunday, May 22 at the Bell Arts Factory, 432 N. Ventura Ave., Ventura.
“Yerma” is a tragedy with a single theme (the sterile woman), Teatro reported in a media release. The protagonist, Yerma, struggles desperately with her truth, which is progressively more conflicted and does not cease until it consumes her. The final resolution — the death of her husband — is the final defense of her impossible dream and the resounding affirmation of her tragic destiny, blind fatalism.

El Teatro de las Américas Sigue la serie de Teatro en Atril (Teatro Leído) in mayo y junio, 2011. La segunda producción es “Yerma” del eminente poeta y dramaturgo español, Federico García Lorca. “Yerma” es una tragedia con un solo tema (la mujer estéril). La protagonista, Yerma, lucha desesperadamente con su verdad, que cada vez se vuelve más conflictiva y no ceja en ello hasta consumarla.
