Bilingual report: Teatro de las Américas to present ‘La infamia / Infamy’ from Aug. 22 through Sept. 6 at Oxnard College

OXNARD — Teatro de las Américas present “La infamia / Infamy,” a tragedy in one act, from Aug. 22 through Sept. 6 at the Black Box Theatre in the Oxnard College Performing Arts Building, 4000 So. Rose Ave., Oxnard

“La infamia was written by Mexico’s avant garde playwright Óscar Liera and is directed by Jesús Castaños Chima, who says:
“This play does indeed treat of domestic violence, alcohol abuse, sexuality and other no less serious themes, La infamia provides a mirror where we can reflect and see those hidden stories, of which no family is exempt, because the human condition leaves no one perfect,” Teatro reported in a media release. “Unconsciously or not, we decide to do away with them, not speak of them in order to avoid the chaos that would make impossible family and even social life in general. The play does not intend to justify these issues, rather it is a call to reflect and see more deeply into ourselves and our families before voicing an opinion on the shameful condition of others, obvious as it may be.”

The actors are Jesús Castaños Chima, who hails from the 24th St. Theatre in Los Angeles, and local actors Patricia Casiano and Antonio Jáuregui.

The play is presented in Spanish with English super-titles. It is appropriate for mature audiences only. It runs on Fridays and Saturdays from Aug 22 through September 6 at 8:00 pm.
