The Santa Paula Police Departments reminds residents of the dangers of setting off fireworks leading up to and including the Fourth of July holiday. Extra patrols by police officers through the end of the holiday will be focusing on enforcement for those found in possession of any “safe and sane” or illegal fireworks.

Every year, the numbers of fireworks calls reported to the Santa Paula Police Department Dispatch Center rises significantly the days prior to and including Fourth of July holiday. Due to the increases in these calls for service, we ask for your patience as patrol officers respond to the high number of calls we will be experiencing.

1. Non-emergencies related to observing illegal fireworks can be reported to the police department at (805)

525-4474.

2. If you observe any fire or suspicious fire to structures, property, or wilderness areas, dial 9-1-1.

We are working with our partners at the Ventura County Fire Department to be vigilant in the community, on the lookout for those setting off fireworks. Those who are found in possession of fireworks are subject to administrative citations for municipal code violations and even arrest for misdemeanor or felony violations of the California Health and Safety Code and Penal Code. Those cited or arrested for violations will be subject to fines starting at $1,000 for municipal code violations or jail time and prosecution for the state code violations.

The Santa Paula Police Department, the City of Santa Paula, and the Ventura County Fire Department remind residents to show care and concern for our community in order to enjoy a safe and patriotic Fourth of July.
