Provide Your Input on Unmet Transit Needs

An informational listening session will be held on December 7 to seek public input on how bus systems, dial-a-ride, and paratransit services can better serve residents in Santa Barbara County. All residents are encouraged to stop by anytime during the two-hour virtual listening session to share comments or concerns about bus systems, dial-a-ride, and paratransit services in Santa Barbara County, or express needs for new or expanded services in the county. Spanish language interpretation services will be available during the listening session.

Those unable to attend December 7, 2022, listening session can take an online survey in English or Spanish until Friday, December 9, 2022. Residents can also submit comments in writing to SBCAG at 260 North San Antonio Road, Suite B, Santa Barbara, CA 93110, or by email to comment@sbcag.org.

Comments provided at the listening session, on the online survey, or in writing are shared with local decision-makers, like me, transit agencies, and the California Department of Transportation to help influence options for transit services and projects. A summary of public input is presented to the Santa Barbara County Transit Advisory Committee and SBCAG Board of Directors in early 2023.

Protect Your Home From an Earthquake

Attention Santa Barbara South County residents! If your home is located within a Goleta, Santa Barbara, Montecito, or Carpinteria eligible ZIP Code, you could get up to $3,000 for a seismic retrofit to protect your home from earthquakes.

For low-moderate income households, homeowners may also apply for supplemental grants that could provide up to 100 percent of the retrofit costs thanks to additional funding from FEMA that is administered by the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (CalOES).

Homeowners can apply for grants online through November 29, 2022. Learn more and apply at EarthquakeBraceBolt.com

Olive Mill Roundabout Construction

Kick-Off

Last week we celebrated the construction kick-off of the Olive Mill Roundabout. As the Chair of SBCAG, I am happy to see this project come to fruition. It will improve traffic flow at the five-point intersection of Olive Mill Road, Coast Village Road, North Jameson Lane, Highway 101 northbound off-ramp, and Highway 101 southbound on-ramp. This is an important business district and this roundabout will help keep Montecito and Santa Barbara moving.

Support Ukraine

I am sure that you have been watching with anguish the continued war of aggression against Ukraine. Unable to win on the battlefield, Putin is striking terror and destroying infrastructure with Iranian-made suicide drones, cruise missiles, and the like. Below is a picture of a bomb crater where my best friend’s son used to play in Kyiv. It is important to achieve victory with speed to save lives, and there is a way you can help. A friend and I have been raising a small amount of money to manufacture drones in Ukraine and send over drones and drone parts from the U.S. Check it out at Drones 2 Ukraine and help if you can. Drones for scouting and surveillance reduce casualties. Winter is coming, as is a large amount of Russian conscripts. Now is the time to help.
