VENTURA — The Public Defender’s Office resumed in-person services this week. There is a pop-up site located in the courtyard between the Hall of Administration and the Hall of Justice at the Ventura County Superior Court located at 800 S. Victoria Ave. The pop-up tables will be open weekdays at 8:00 a.m. and will remain open during the morning and afternoon criminal case calendars.
Current clients and new clients that want but cannot afford their own attorney for a criminal matter, are asked to enter the Government Center from Telephone or Hill Roads and park in lots E or F. Then proceed to the courtyard between the Hall of Administration and the Hall of Justice to check in at the Public Defender table.
The Public Defender’s Office will gather contact information and ask new clients to allow attorneys to appear for them in court. Depending on your situation—you may not need to enter the courthouse. In many cases, the Public Defender Attorney can appear on the case in your absence and set it for a future date. We will then have an attorney assigned to the matter. The newly assigned attorney will then contact the client to discuss options (settlement, trial, etc.) over the phone or by email.
Masks are required to enter the Hall of Justice. Community members are asked to wear masks when consulting with the public defender’s staff and to remain socially distanced.
Public Defender Todd Howeth says, “Our goal is to keep our clients safe by reducing to a minimum the number of people who must enter the Hall of Justice. Having staff outside will allow us to just that.” People who must personally appear on their case will be asked to wait outside until asked to enter the Hall of Justice so we can maintain social distance in the courtrooms. La Oficina del Defensor Público brinda servicios en una oficina móvil fuera del Palacio de Justicia
Ventura, CA – Las Oficinas del Defensor Público reanudó los servicios en persona esta semana. Hay una oficina móvil ubicada en el patio entre el Hall de Administración y el Palacio de Justicia del Tribunal Superior del Condado de Ventura ubicado en 800 S. Victoria Ave. La oficina estará abierta los días de semana a las 8:00 am y permanecerá abierta durante los calendarios de casos penales de la mañana y la tarde.
A los clientes actuales y nuevos que desean, pero no pueden pagar su propio abogado por un asunto penal, se les pide que ingresen al Centro de Gobierno desde las calles Telephone Rd. o Hill Rd. y se estacionen en los lotes E o F. Luego procedan al patio entre el Hall de Administración y el Palacio de Justicia para registrarse en la mesa del Defensor Público.
La Oficina del Defensor Público colectará información de cómo ponerse en contacto con usted y pedirá a los nuevos clientes que lo permitan que los abogados se presenten para ellos en la corte. Dependiendo de su situación, es posible que no necesite ingresar a la corte. En muchos casos, el abogado del defensor público puede aparecer en el caso en su ausencia y establecerlo para una fecha en el futuro. Luego tendremos un abogado asignado al asunto. El abogado recién asignado se comunicará con el cliente para discutir las opciones (acuerdo, juicio, etc.) por teléfono o por correo electrónico.
Se requieren máscaras para ingresar al Palacio de Justicia. Se les pide a los miembros de la comunidad que usen máscaras al consultar con el personal del Defensor Público y que mantenga el distanciamiento social.
El Defensor Público Todd Howeth dice: “Nuestro objetivo es mantener a nuestros clientes seguros reduciendo al mínimo el número de personas que deben ingresar al Palacio de Justicia. Tener personal afuera nos permitirá precisamente eso”. A las personas que deben presentarse en persona para su caso, se les pedirá que esperen afuera hasta que se les solicite ingresar al Palacio de Justicia para que podamos mantener la distancia social en las salas del tribunal. Si actualmente usted es cliente del Defensor Público, le pedimos que se comunique con su abogado o llame a la recepción al 805.654.2201 antes de presentarse en el tribunal para coordinar su presencia con su abogado.
