SANTA MARIA — Allan Hancock College invited more than 1,800 new students to attend a “Hancock Hello” orientation event on Aug. 12 at the Santa Maria campus.
During the event, the new Bulldog students and their parents were able to learn more about Hancock and the programs and support services the college offers. Attendees met faculty and staff, learned more about college departments and student clubs, and took campus tours.
“I really like Hancock Hello because you get to see all these new faces and help them feel welcome,” said Jaci Rayas, a Hancock student ambassador who worked the event. “It’s great for students and their parents to see everything that’s here for them and see that they have a support system here.”
Students and parents who attended this year’s Hancock Hello were also encouraged to participate in workshops designed to prepare them for college life. Offered in English and Spanish, the workshops included financial aid, tips from the college’s deans, how to utilize Hancock’s Career Center, and how parents can support their new college students.
“Hancock Hello is the perfect chance for new students and their families to experience our campus and community,” said Hancock Outreach Coordinator Patricia Prado-Rios. “It’s a welcoming event that helps our new Bulldogs feel confident and connected.”
In addition to learning more about the college, students also enjoyed food, music, and Hancock swag. Hancock also held a Hello event at its Lompoc Valley Center campus on Aug. 5.
Fall classes at the college begin on Aug. 18.
