Bilingual report — Kaiser Permanente Statement 1/10/25 (regarding current wildfire emergency)

Southern California remains on high alert from devastating wildfires throughout the region. Kaiser Permanente is deeply concerned about everyone in our community who has been affected by this tragedy. Our top priority remains the safety of our patients, members, staff, and anyone seeking care at Kaiser Permanente.

Currently, most of our facilities in Southern California are open and operating normally. We will remain vigilant and ready to respond fluidly as conditions change.

Our hearts go out to those affected, including our own staff and their families. We are grateful to our dedicated employees who continue to work tirelessly to care for our members, even as some of them are personally impacted by the fires.

Working with the City of Pasadena Public Health department, we have set up a health care clinic at the evacuation center at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium.  Kaiser Permanente physicians, nurses, and mental health staff, as well as non-medical personnel, are working at the clinic to keep it open 24 hours a day. The staff there can care for injured evacuees, provide mental health care for anyone who may need support, and even conduct routine health screenings. We are also working closely with the City of Pasadena to provide medical and non-medical supplies as needed. The evacuation center is currently housing over 900 displaced individuals, including people evacuated from senior assisted living facilities.

We have also deployed our Mobile Health Vehicle to the Westwood Recreation Center located at 1350 South Sepulveda Blvd. Staffed with our care teams, who are providing essential medial services for those in need.

We have also set up a center in Pasadena for first responders and our community members to get care for minor injuries, rest, eat and get other support they need while they are battling these fires and helping our communities.

Members can visit kp.org? for the most current facilities updates and reminders about how to safeguard their?health if they are impacted by the current fires.

The following Kaiser Permanente facilities are closed on Friday, January 10:

Important information for staying safe and healthy

We are seeing an increase in patients with health issues related to wildfire smoke. We advise individuals, especially those with respiratory conditions, to:

  • Stay indoors and keep windows closed.
  • Use air conditioning and air filters to maintain indoor air quality.
  • Utilize prescribed inhalers as needed.

Your mental health can also be affected by wildfires. For people who have lost homes, been evacuated due to fire, or experienced a fire- or smoke-related health event, the emotional effects can be traumatic. People who already have mental health conditions are susceptible to increased symptoms due to the unstable environment.

?Even if you don’t live in an area affected by wildfires, it’s possible to feel anxious or upset when hearing the devastating stories of people experiencing loss from fires. Our mental health clinicians are?available to assist members.
