Thank you to all who joined us for the Grand Opening of Broad Street Place: new affordable housing in the City of San Luis Obispo. This development brings 40 new, affordable units for low and moderate income households, as well as three commercial spaces.

Dear Friend,The 1950’s housing boom, subsidized by the federal government, paid builders on the condition that no homes be sold to African Americans.

This uncomfortable truth, which sits uneasily in our national psyche, has now been compounded by three generations. Along with the ensuing inability to accrue wealth through home ownership, and the subsequent inability to transfer that wealth to their heirs, it is the single most important factor in the wealth gap and the reason for the incessant poverty of many people of color.

Celebrating Student Success!Estefania and her family live at a PSHH property in San Luis Obispo County. In 8th grade, she joined CELEBRE, a PSHH education program aimed at equipping Latina students with the skills and resources to pursue higher education.

Since then, Estefania has been thriving and has become a leader among the students in the program. She is in her senior year of high school, has applied to multiple four year universities, and has already received acceptances to the California State University Northridge and Sacramento State University!

Estefania shared, “I’m proud to be a Latina and I hope that I can make an impact in our Hispanic community and motivate other Latinas to go to college… Anything is possible: you just need to put a little work into it.”

Estefanía y su familia viven en una propiedad de PSHH en San Luis Obispo County. En 8º grado, se unió al grupo de CELEBRE, el programa educativo de PSHH destinado a dotar a las estudiantes latinas de las habilidades y los recursos necesarios para cursar estudios superiores.

Desde entonces, Estefanía ha avanzado muchísimo y se ha convertido en una líder entre los estudiantes del programa. Está en su último año de preparatoria, solicitó admisión en varias universidades de cuatro años ¡y ya ha sido aceptada en California State University Northridge y Sacramento State University!

Estefanía compartió: “Estoy orgullosa de ser latina y espero poder tener un impacto en nuestra comunidad hispana y motivar a otras latinas a ir a la universidad…. Cualquier cosa es posible: sólo hay que ponerle un poco de trabajo en ello”.
