December 8, 2020 COVID-19 Update
Good Evening, There are 308 new cases for today (7 (2.3%) of which have a lab collection from 12/1 or earlier) 1,936 additional people tested and 6 additional deaths (5 males and 1 female between the ages of 51-93, all but one with comorbidities). Current doubling time is 47.9. Current hospitalizations are 142 and current ICU is 40.

Please continue to wear a mask, social distance, wash hands frequently and avoid gatherings to help slow the spread of COVID-19.
A press conference will take place on 12/9/20 at 1pm. It will be streamed at www.venturacountyrecovers.organd Facebook @CountyofVentura.
A testing location update will be sent to update on any closures for tomorrow. Today, there were closures due to adverse weather.
Wireless Emergency Alert
The California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services issued a Wireless Emergency Alert (WEA) at 12:00 pm today, 12/8/2020 communicating the new public health stay at home order and reinforcing the increasing COVID-19 danger in the Southern California Region. Cornell Fire
The Cornell Fire ignited on 12/7/2020 at approximately 11:44am in the unincorporated area of Santa Paula. Crews continue containment activities. There are no evacuations issued at this time.
Public Safety Power Shutoffs
The Red Flag Warning issued by the National Weather Service for Ventura County expires tonight at 10:00pm. Wind speeds will lessen to 20-40 mph through this afternoon, however isolated gusts of up to 50 mph in the higher elevations are expected. Wednesday brings continued gradual weakening of wind speeds, with expected gusts of 15-30 mph. Low humidity and poor overnight recoveries extend the risk of critical fire weather. Temperatures today ranged between 77-87 degrees, expected highs for Wednesday between 70-80 degrees.
Southern California Edison has concluded monitoring Ventura County for PSPS at 3:00pm today. Eighteen circuits were impacted by partial or complete outages. Re-energization efforts are underway, and power is expected to be restored as soon as the areas are deemed safe. OES continues to monitor the situation at Duty Officer status until the Red Flag Warning expires this evening and/or power has been restored to all residents. Please consult the live incident map below for updates received from SCE on your area.
