Arts & Lectures’ annual FREE Friday night summer film series continues for 2024 with Sun, Surf and Cinema, seven nights of beach-inspired movies under the stars

    • Attendees can start setting up at noon (12 PM) on the day of the screening.
    • Please respect the lawn and your fellow filmgoers: only bring blankets that are permeable (no plastic/nylon/tarps) and chairs that are low-backed and low to the ground

SANTA BARBARA — Get ready to make waves this summer with UCSB Arts & Lectures’ 2024 FREE summer films line-up: Sun, Surf and Cinema. The program continues with Wes Anderson’s 2004 film The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou starring Bill Murray and an all-star cast at the Santa Barbara County Courthouse Sunken Garden on Friday, August 9 at 8:30 pm. Enjoy pre-screening fun including a live DJ set from Val Mar Records, raffle prizes and more.

ABOUT THE LIFE AQUATIC WITH STEVE ZISSOU

World-famous oceanographer Steve Zissou (Bill Murray) and his crew set sail on an expedition to hunt down the mysterious, elusive, possibly nonexistent “jaguar shark” that killed Zissou’s partner. They are joined on their voyage by a young airline copilot (Owen Wilson), a pregnant journalist (Cate Blanchett) and Zissou’s estranged wife (Anjelica Huston). The all-star cast for this wildly original adventure-comedy also includes Willem Dafoe, Jeff Goldblum, Michael Gambon, Noah Taylor, Seu Jorge and Bud Cort. (Wes Anderson, 2004, R, 119 min.)
