Aug. 27 — Ventura County Community Development Corp. Hosts Free Disaster Preparedness Class

VENTURA COUNTY — A recent FEMA survey found that nearly 60 percent of Americans have not practiced what to do in a disaster! Ventura County Community Development Corporation (VCCDC) will host a free educational workshop to help the local community prepare for emergencies and disasters. This workshop is part of VCCDC’s HomeSmart Workshops which are designed to educate homeowners on varying topics such as Estate Planning, Financial Planning, Home Maintenance and other topics.  The workshop will take place Tuesday, August 27th at 6pm at the VCCDC Home Ownership Center located at 2231 Sturgis Road, Suite A, Oxnard, CA 93030.

Guest speaker, Scott Brewer, Emergency Services Manage for the City of Oxnard, will   help attendees prepare for a disaster and emergencies by offering information on the following:

  • Overview of the types of emergencies and disasters that can impact our area
  • What to expect following a major disaster
  • What should your “Basic Survival” kit include
  • How to obtain “Official Information” during a disaster
  • Important documents to have
  • What you can do to prepare your home
  • Evacuation – when to go and what to take with you
