VENTURA — Governor Newsom on Dec. 7 appointed Matt LaVere as the Supervisor for the 1st District of the Ventura County Board of Supervisors. LaVere was elected in March for the term to begin in January 2021. The 1st District Supervisor Steve Bennett was elected for State Assembly and sworn in as Assemblymember for the 37th Assembly District today. LaVere was appointed to begin service a month early with the departure of Steve Bennett to the Assembly.
“I am sincerely appreciative of this rare early appointment by the Governor, as during these unprecedented times it is important for the residents of the 1st District to have representation as our County deals with many important issues,” Added LaVere. “Across the State and nation, Ventura County has an outstanding reputation and long tradition of good government and being an outstanding place to live. I could not be more excited to join the Board of Supervisors and I look forward to working with my fellow Board members, the entire County leadership team, local city representatives, our residents and our local business community to ensure these traditions continue”.
LaVere has been Mayor of the City of Ventura since 2018. LaVere is a member of the Ventura College Foundation and the Ventura City Council Homeless and Affordable Housing Subcommittee. He earned a Juris Doctor degree from the Pepperdine University School of Law. LaVere lives in Ventura with his wife Alicia and daughters Lucia and Lorenza.

The Board of Supervisors and I look forward to working with him as we serve the community in addressing the challenges before us and as we pursue the opportunities ahead,” said County Executive Officer Mike Powers.
Supervisor LaVere will participate in his first Board of Supervisors meeting on December 8, 2020.

Matt LaVere Designado Supervisor para el Primer Distrito de la Junta De Supervisores del Condado de Ventura
VENTURA – – Hoy, el Gobernador Newson designo a Matt LaVere como Supervisor del Primer Distrito de la Junta de Supervisores del Condado de Ventura. LaVere fue elegido en marzo para el término que inicia en enero de 2021. El Supervisor del Primer Distrito Steve Bennett fue elegido a la Asamblea Estatal y hoy tomo el juramente como Miembro de la Asamblea para la Asamblea del Distrito 37.
“Sinceramente aprecio este pronta designación por el Gobernador, ya que en estos tiempos sin precedentes es importante que los residentes del Primer Distrito tengan representación mientras que nuestro Condado atiende tantos temas importantes,” agrego LaVere. “En todo el estado y el país, el Condado de Ventura tiene una reputación excepcional y una larga tradición de buen gobierno y de ser un lugar excepcional para vivir. No podría estar más emocionado de ser parte de la Junta de Supervisores y con emoción deseo trabajar con los demás miembros de la Junta, todo el equipo de liderazgo del Condado, los representantes de las ciudades, nuestros residentes y la comunidad local de negocios para asegurarnos de que esta tradición continúe.”
LaVere ha sido Alcalde de la Ciudad de Ventura desde el 2018. LaVere es miembro de la Fundación del Colegio de Ventura y el subcomité del Concilio de la Ciudad de Ventura de Personas Sin Hogar y Vivienda Asequible. Obtuvo su Diploma en Derecho de la Universidad Pepperdine, Escuela de Derecho. LaVere vive en Ventura con su esposa Alicia y sus hijas Lucia y Lorenza.
