SACRAMENTO — After two years of unprecedented legislative successes Assemblymember Monique Limón (D-Santa Barbara) was again sworn-in to continue serving the 37th Assembly District.
“I am honored to have the opportunity to continue to serve the 37th Assembly District for a second term. I am proud of the work that my team and I have accomplished, and I look forward to continuing our work in moving California forward,” said Assemblymember Limón.
In her first term, Assemblymember Limón has been a champion for her district. She was fundamental in securing community control over the Ojai Water system; in the reopening of the Vista Del Mar Hospital after the Thomas Fire; and in the removal of an initiative on the November 6th statewide ballot that could have cost taxpayers $3.9 billion in lead paint cleanup.
In 2019, Assemblymember Limón will continue to be a champion for the environment, banking issues and education. She will also continue to magnify the goals of the California Legislative Women’s Caucus as the newly elected Vice-Chair. Assemblymember Limón is only the second woman from Santa Barbara and Ventura Counties to serve as Vice-Chair of the bipartisan California Legislative Women’s Caucus.
“I am honored and excited to have the opportunity to work with and support my colleagues in a leadership role within the Women’s Caucus. In this new session, I remain committed to ensure issues impacting women and families continue to be on the forefront of our work and will work diligently to advance policies to ensure equity for all women, in all spaces,” said Assemblymember Limón.
At the start of the 2016 legislative session, the Women’s Caucus membership had decreased to 26 members, the lowest since 1998. With last month’s election, the Women’s Caucus begins the new session with 36 women Legislators, matching the record high for the California Legislature (2006). A new record high was also set with the largest number of women serving in the California State Assembly.
“As the work begins, the Women’s Caucus will ensure women’s issues remain a higher priority and are present in all discussions,” said Assemblymember Limón.
