SACRAMENTO — Assemblymember Monique Limón (D-Santa Barbara) has launched the “There Oughta Be a Law” contest, an open call to constituents for ideas for legislation.
“Some of best ideas of our state have come from students, veterans, and just regular folks who saw a problem and had a solution. If you have ever thought to yourself ‘There oughta be a law,’ or even, ‘That should not be a law’ this contest is for you,” said Limón. “I want you to share your bill ideas with me, inspired by your daily experiences, ideas that will make California better.”
All constituents are invited to submit ideas and proposals of their own for a new state law. The law can cover any issue, from something particular in a neighborhood to something that can improve the quality of life throughout the state.
Previous ideas submitted to legislators have included laws that have cracked down on misleading floral advertising, a bill that enables individuals who vote by mail to confirm their ballots were counted, and a measure that created a pilot program to link the state’s community colleges with local chambers of commerce to promote business development and job creation.
If selected, the constituent may have the opportunity to travel to Sacramento and testify before an Assembly Committee on the merits of the bill.
Submissions are being accepted through 5 pm on November 17, 2017 on my website at asmdc.org/limon.
