OXNARD — The Oxnard Performing Arts Center Corporation (OPAC) invites you to an evening under the stars, celebrating National Poetry Month (April). The event is free and open to the public for ages 13 years and up. Join us on Sunday, April 18 from 6 PM to 8 PM for an Open Mic Night showcasing our talented community.
OPAC is pleased to announce that Ventura County’s 2021 Youth Poet Laureate, Angelina Leanos, will be taking the stage alongside Genesis Perez, the 2020 Youth Poet Laureate. The event is to be hosted by musician and all-around-funny-guy, Christopher Hall. Members of the public are invited to sign up to share the stage for this first OPAC Open Mic Night where all COVID-19 Safety Guidelines and protocols will be followed.
After a year like no other, OPAC is working to provide a semblance of normalcy for our cultural community. Considered second responders, artists lifted our spirits throughout the pandemic and arts venues like OPAC pivoted to provide inspired and relevant programming to meet the needs of residents.
Following safety protocols, we invite you to OPAC’s outdoor courtyard for an evening filled with poetry, music, and spoken word.
“We need spaces like these [OPAC] where the people of Oxnard can express themselves and share their ideas and experiences. It’s a privilege to be joined by Angelina and Genesis on our first Open Mic Night with OPAC,” said emcee/host Christopher Hall. Attendees are encouraged to bring a blanket, their favorite snacks and enjoy this inspired event.
Taking into consideration the wide range of topics, we ask that attendees are 13 years of age or older. The event is first-come, first-serve. Audience and Participant space is limited, so it is highly recommended to reserve your spot as soon as possible at https://www.oxnardperformingarts.com/open-mic-night.html
