Over 140 stunning photographs capture George Rose’s expansive documentation of California’s complicated and dramatic water story. George began this project during the pandemic, just as the effects of drought were becoming increasingly visible. Then, California was hit with record-setting rain and snowstorms in early 2023. This onslaught of water effectively filled reservoirs and – at least temporarily – ended the drought. “I made the decision to educate myself about California’s convoluted water systems and set out to photograph as many of the important and not-so-important state water reservoirs as possible,” said Rose. “As I looked back, I realized I was witnessing a changing climate and landscape which was evolving right before my eyes.” Over 50 years ago, Rose began his long career as a photographer. A few highlights of his vast experience include the Los Angeles Times (twice nominated for a Pulitzer Prize), National Football League (NFL); co-owned/published the |
Mendocino Grapevine; won a “World Press Photo Award” and was named California “Newspaper Photographer of the Year”. In addition to his new book, Rose has released books such as VINEYARD Sonoma County (2017) and WINE COUNTRY Santa Barbara County (2019). Rose is a contributing photographer with Getty Images and lives in Santa Barbara County’s Santa Ynez Valley. Much of his time is devoted to documenting the natural environment as well as top vineyard estates up and down the coast of California. |
