Organization/institutions are encouraged to participate in the “Nomination for Appropriations” 2012 Rebozo Festival Awards, festival organizers reported this week in a media release. The awards are presented annually by Las Madrinas of Ventura County.
The next event will be held on Sunday, May 20, 2012 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Camarillo Ranch House in Camarillo. For its 8th consecutive year, funds in the amount of up to $15,000 will be awarded to eligible organizations.
The Rebozo Festival was organized in 1995 by a group of dedicated volunteers. The annual celebration promotes the rich cultural heritage of the community symbolized by the colorful Mexican Rebozo (shawl) as the event’s central theme.
This year’s charity recipient was the Central Coast Alliance United for a Sustainable Economy (CAUSE) Centro Mujer. The award will be used for leadership development and training of women to take active roles to transform their families and their communities. Since its inception, the group has raised funds for various non-profit organizations including Inlakech Cultural Center, United Farm Workers Freeze Relief Fund, the Oxnard College Women’s Re-entry Program, the Ventura County Chapter of Parents of Murdered Children, and the Foundation, Educational and Employment Resources Development/Café on A.
