A Day in the Life of a Social Media Manager – CSU Channel Islands Multimedia Coordinator shares knowledge at October PRSA Gold Coast Chapter Meeting on Oct. 26

CHANNEL ISLANDS — Social media is changing the way we all manage our lives – between what we share with others and when; but, it’s a whole new game when you’re coordinating information for a large company or institution. Tom Emens, multimedia coordinator at CSU Channel Islands (CI), has been doing just that for the past four years. Emens will share his experience as well as insight and analysis of best practices for social media at the Oct. 26 Public Relations Society of America Gold Coast Chapter meeting.

The meeting will begin at 8 a.m. with networking, followed by the program presentation from 8:30-9:30 a.m. The event will be held at Ventura County Community Foundation, 4001 Mission Oaks Blvd, Camarillo.

As the Multimedia Coordinator for CI’s Communication & Marketing team, Emens has carefully crafted multimedia content to foster and grow the social reach of the CI brand.In his 25 years in design and multimedia, he has witnessed the advent of desktop publishing, HTML, web applications and many other types of media.

Prior to CI, Emens worked as a multimedia specialist at the Robert Kennedy Library at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. He joined the CI team in 2002 to help the new university build a media hub. In 2008, he transitioned over to Academic Technology to support the media needs of the students and faculty.As an official Social Media Governance Practitioner, Emens consults with small businesses that are entering the social realm, and has several clients in the Southern California area. Emens earned his undergraduate degree in Art from California State University, Long Beach.

The PRSA meeting is open to anyone who is interested in attending, and advance reservations are required. Admission is $10 for students with ID, $20 for PRSA members and $30 for non-members. A light breakfast is served. To register, visit www.prsagoldcoast.org.
