About Amigos805:

The publication will give residents, business owners, nonprofit organizations and others yet another opportunity to share information and advertisers a multi-platform method (print, internet, social media, broadcast) to reach their target audience.

The time is right to launch such a product.

The election season is in full swing, with candidates from all parties busy trying to court that important Latino vote.

The economy appears to be rebounding, but Latinos continue to report higher unemployment numbers and higher foreclosure rates than the rest of the population.

Education — a key factor in helping Latino youths gain the skills they need to break out of low-paying jobs — is under attack as state governments across the nation continue to cut budgets at the expense of tomorrow’s leaders.

Meanwhile, Latinos remain the fastest-growing ethnic population in the United States, with buying power nationwide hitting $1 trillion in 2010 and expected to jump to $1.5 trillion by 2015.

Now, more than ever, the local Latino community requires its own way to speak out; highlight important role models from the business, education and political worlds; tackle important trend stories affecting our community, from discrimination to personal finance, and create a virtual plaza where we can all come together, learn about one another and work toward that elusive American Dream.

With the community’s support, Amigos805 will seek to fill that niche by providing coverage of issues impacting the community, providing news briefs on breaking events impacting the community and providing a mix of self-help wire service content covering everything from personal finance to food, culture, travel and lifestyle.

Amigos805.com was launched on May 5, 2009 and currently averages 125,000 hits per month on its website. The print product will also benefit from its broadcast connections, sharing information on events and news issues for the popular “David Cruz — La Voz Poderosa” bilingual radio talk show from 6 to 9 a.m. Monday through Friday on Radio Lazer’s KOXR 910-AM. The former KNBC-TV news broadcaster also hosts the “David Cruz” Show from 3 to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday on KTLK AM-1150 in Los Angeles.

Cruz is also in the final stages of launching Channel 25, a public access television station that will serve the population of Oxnard.

By combinging forces, these media formats hope to provide 805 residents with the news they need through a variety of media platforms, as well as providing businesses and organizations a several methods to reach this growing and vibrant Latino target audience.
