SANTA BARBARAThe Music Academy of the West, now in its 77th season, inspires artists and concert-goers alike with the 2024 Summer Music Festival themed “The Magic of Music.” The Festival showcases talented young musicians and outstanding teaching and guest artists in a wide array of one-of-a-kind performances, chamber concerts, public masterclasses, and competitions.

The 2024 Summer Music Festival, which kicked off June 12 and runs through August 3 at the Music Academy’s idyllic campus — and throughout the stunning setting of the American Riviera in Santa Barbara, California — features nearly 130 live events including special performances by Joshua Bell, Lawrence Brownlee, Sasha Cooke, Jeremy Denk, Steven Isserlis, Leila Josefowicz, Richard O’Neill, and the Takács Quartet, the Academy’s quartet-in-residence, which during the Festival’s first week offered masterclasses and an inspiring performance at Santa Barbara’s Lobero Theatre.

SUMMER FESTIVAL WEEK 2 DAILY SCHEDULE

    • June 19: Special Event: Denk On Ives. A lecture and performance of Charles Ives’ “Concord” Piano Sonata with Jeremy Denk in honor of the composer’s 150th birthday anniversary
    • June 20: X2 Series Opener with Takács Quartetfeatures the ultimate masters in chamber music — Academy teaching artists — side-by-side with Academy fellows for an inspiring performance
    • June 21: Lehrer Vocal Institute Series: Opera Scenes offers some of the best musical and theatrical moments of opera, expertly performed by Music Academy fellows
    • June 22: Academy Festival Orchestra Series: Minnesota Orchestra Conductor Laureate Osmo Vänskä conducts Sibelius at the Granada Theatre
  • Masterclasses Held Daily (June 17-21): Over 70 masterclasses held throughout the eight-week Festival are open to the public, offering a rare look at classical musical instruction

Tickets for the 2024 Summer Music Festival are on sale online at musicacademy.org, by phone at 805-969-8787, and at the Music Academy Carsey Ticket Office, open Monday-Friday, 10 am to 5 pm.

The Music Academy is committed to ensuring low-to-moderate income households in Santa Barbara County have access to the magic of music through $10 Community Access Tickets, subject to availability. Plus, young people ages 7-17 can receive a ticket free of charge when accompanied by a ticketed adult. The Community Access Ticket program is made possible in the loving memory of Linda Sawyer Frankel.
