SANTA MARIA — A group of talented Hancock students attended a prestigious statewide Mathematics, Engineering, Science Achievement (MESA) conference, where they had the opportunity to meet with industry professionals and explore potential careers.
Hancock students Willibaldo Pina Gonzalez, Elizabeth Valencia-Dominguez, Remington Los, and Ruby Rocha traveled to San Diego to attend the annual MESA Leadership Conference. They joined MESA students from 32 community colleges, CSUs, UCs and private universities from across California.
The four students had the unique opportunity to interact one-on-one and in small groups with executives, engineers, and recruiters from a variety of companies in the science, technology, math, and engineering (MESA) fields, including Intel, Electronic Arts, Rockwell Automation, NOAA, MicroVention-Terumo, Tetra Tech, the Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, and many more. Representatives from those companies presented workshops, hosted career fair tables and led participating students through a team project during the conference.
“MESA’s Student Leadership Conference provides an incredible opportunity for our community college and university students to gain invaluable career development skills and network with leading industry professionals to kick-start their STEM careers,” said MESA Executive Director Thomas Ahn. “These students represent the skills, passion and potential that California desperately needs to enrich our workforce and strengthen our communities.”
