VENTURA — County Clerk-Recorder & Registrar of Voters Michelle Ascencion announced the signatures in lieu of filing fee period will begin on September 14, 2023, for the March 5, 2024 Presidential Primary Election. Candidates may submit a signatures in lieu petition (also called petitions in lieu) to cover all or any prorated portion of the filing fee required to run for certain offices.
The signatures in lieu petitions may be obtained from the Ventura County Elections Division. Only valid signatures from registered voters within the jurisdiction of the office will be used to reduce fees. The number of signatures required to cover the filing fee varies by office and will be verified by the Elections Division. If the full amount of signatures to offset the filing fee are not gathered, that portion of the filing fee not covered by the signatures will need to be paid in full before the candidate can obtain their nomination documents.
Candidates for the following voter-nominated and nonpartisan offices may submit signatures in lieu petitions:
Voter-Nominated Offices
United States Senator
United States Representative in Congress: 24th, 26th and 32ndCongressional Districts
Member of the State Senate: 21st and 27th Senatorial Districts
Member of the State Assembly: 38th, 42nd, and 46th Assembly Districts
Nonpartisan Offices
Judge of the Superior Court: Offices 1 – 9
County of Ventura Supervisor: 1st, 3rd, and 5th Supervisorial Districts
The last day to submit the signatures in lieu of filing fee to the Ventura County Elections Division is November 8, 2023. The nomination period for these offices opens November 13 and ends December 8, 2023..
“Filing fees should not be a barrier for candidates running for office,” said Registrar of Voters Ascencion. “I encourage all candidates running for those positions that are eligible for signatures in lieu petitions to take full advantage of that opportunity. Not only does it cut costs, but it gives the candidate a head start on gathering the signatures needed for their nomination papers.

Las firmas en lugar de la tarifa las peticiones se pueden obtener de la División de Elecciones del Condado de Ventura.
