Friday nights under the stars! Arts & Lectures’ annual FREE Summer Cinema series continues with the theme “Out of This World”

    • Out of This World, seven nights of space creature-themed movies under the stars, Friday nights through August 25 (no screening Friday, August 4 due to Fiesta)
    • Presented in association with the Santa Barbara County Office of Arts and Culture
    • Premier sponsor Montecito Bank & Trust
    • Attendees can start setting up at noon (12 p.m.) on the day of the screening.
    • Please respect the lawn and your fellow filmgoers: only bring blankets that are permeable (no plastic/nylon/tarps), and chairs that are low-backed and low to the ground
    • Free transportation from the UCSB campus and Isla Vista available to UCSB students with valid ID
    • Bring breathable blankets or a low chair, a picnic and your friends
    • Additional pre-screening activities include prize giveaways and a DJ set by Darla Bea

SANTA BARBARA — Get ready to explore the galaxy this summer with UCSB Arts & Lectures’ 2023 FREE Summer Cinema line-up: “Out of This World.” The series continues with Tim Burton’s send-up of vintage sci-fi invasion flicks, Mars Attacks! at the Santa Barbara County Courthouse Sunken Garden on Friday, July 21 at 8:30 pm.

ABOUT MARS ATTACKS!

When a shiny silver flying saucer lands in the Nevada desert, a group of skull-faced Martians emerges and promptly vaporizes a gathering of unfortunate Earthlings, kicking off a bizarre high-tech war with wild special effects. This sci-fi spoof features an all-star cast including Jack Nicholson, Glenn Close, Pierce Brosnan, Danny DeVito, Rod Steiger, Sarah Jessica Parker, Annette Bening and Tom Jones. Don’t miss this hilarious frenzy as Tim Burton directs – and Mars attacks! (Tim Burton, 1996, PG-13, 120 min.)

ENHANCED ACCESS FOR UCSB STUDENTS

Free round-trip transportation from Isla Vista and the UCSB campus will be available to UCSB students with valid student ID. (Note new pick up location in Isla Vista.) Santa Barbara Airbus will depart from Seville Road (near the IV Food Co-op) at 7 PM and the University Plaza loop adjacent to Campbell and Cheadle halls at 7:15 PM, and pick up at 10:45 PM from the Figueroa Street side of the courthouse to return to IV and campus.
