Santa Barbara County First District Supervisor Das Williams — Ceremony to Recognize recently elected officials on Feb. 7

Join me for a Ceremony recognizing County Elected Officials

Ceremony this Tuesday at 10 am

Please join the Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors for a Ceremony to recognize newly elected officials.

Normally, this is the ceremony where the new Chair of the Board of Supervisors is installed, and newly elected officials are sworn in. But this year, mother nature had other plans that caused us to postpone, and swearing-in occurred remotely.

We had already prepared for this Ceremony to take place on the day after the 5-year anniversary of the 1/9 debris flow. We knew that our county (and our whole country and world) had been through a lot in the 5 years since that devastating day. But we could not have foreseen that 1/9 would be marked by yet another dangerous storm.

This storm was a chilling reminder that this is our new normal. We have had to rebuild, recover, and adapt to new ways of life. My hope for this ceremony is to reflect on our resiliency while recognizing more change is likely on the way and inspiring hope that we have the tools to address what lies ahead.

I’m honored to have Rabbi Daniel Brenner from Congregation B’nai Brith doing the invocation; Dr. Aazam Feiz reading two Iranian poems; my cousin Kelsey Klein performing my daughter’s first favorite song, a song about hope and resiliency, “Oceans (Where Feet May Fail);” and Josh Fryday, California’s Chief Service Officer, as our keynote to speak about climate change action and community resiliency in the face of challenges.

Recently elected officials to be recognized include 2nd District Supervisor Laura Capps, 5th District Supervisor Steve Lavagnino, Superintendent of Schools Susan Salcido, Sheriff Bill Brown, District Attorney John Savrnoch, Treasurer-Tax Collector Harry Hagan, Auditor-Controller Betsy Shaeffer, Clerk, Recorder, and Assessor Joe Holland.
