Opening Feb. 5, the exhibition showcases emerging visual artists in Ventura County
CAMARILLO — Studio Channel Islands Art Center (SCIART) opens its first 2022 exhibition, Emergence, Feb. 5, featuring local emerging artists Maria Laura Hendrix and Andy Lepe, both resident artists at SCIART. The exhibition will also include a curated selection of “emerging artists” work in all visual media by juniors, seniors and recent graduates from local universities. The exhibition takes place in SCIART’s Blackboard Gallery located at 2222 E. Ventura Blvd. in Camarillo and is free to attend.
Hendrix, a first-generation immigrant, is the inaugural recipient of the Roxie Ray Artist Endowment Fund, dedicated to helping SCIART fulfill its mission to help artists develop their practice. Like Roxie, much of Maria’s work focuses on field workers. In her application, Maria stated that she wanted to create art that could serve as a gateway to the Latino audience
Ventura County native and California State University Channel Islands graduate Lepe is the winner of the 2016 Gerd Koch Award for Excellence, an award that helps students launch their artistic careers. Lepe’s style combines hard-edge, color-field art, opt art and color flow, creating an abstract concept of energy.
The exhibition will be on display through Feb. 23, 2022. Visit studiochannelislands.org or call 805-383-1368 for full details
