On the occasion of MCASB’s current exhibition, we are pleased to present The Seventh Schism: Lucid Ooey Gooey, a one-night virtual performance art festival. This festival features performance works by students in the College of Creative Studies and the Department of Art at the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB).

Remote learning has pushed students’ creative practice to interface with digital, virtual, and electromagnetic spaces like never before. You are invited to see how these young artists have reimagined performance art while being locked in the grid of capture on their computer screens. The Seventh Schism: Lucid Ooey Gooey will feature telepresence works, performed videos, and collaborative live experiments. As the Spring Quarter at UCSB comes to an end, this festival serves as the culminating event for two courses: ‘Performance Art 134’ taught by Shana Moulton, and ‘Performance, Practice, & Proclamations’ taught by Serene Blumenthal.

This event will be streamed live on our YouTube channel and no login or registration is required. See you at the link below next Friday!

We are thrilled to be open to the public and welcoming visitors back to the Museum! The number of new Covid-19 cases continues to decline. As of this week, 51% of all Santa Barbara County residents are fully vaccinated, according to the Santa Barbara County Public Health Department.

What about masks? With more individuals receiving COVID-19 vaccines, and more data available on the protection they provide, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has relaxed their masking guidelines for people who are fully vaccinated. However, state and local jurisdictions have not yet adjusted local guidelines to match the CDC.  MCASB will continue to require masks at this time.

MCASB members provide crucial support for our groundbreaking exhibitions and innovative community programming. Membership offers a variety of ways to engage with contemporary art, artists, and fellow culture seekers. Click here to learn more about membership benefits.
