COVID-19 Update Jan. 14, 2021 — Case Information and Vaccine Information

Good Evening,

There are 1,354 new cases for today, 13,381 additional tests, and 13 additional deaths (38 year old male, 83 year old female, 97 year old male, 87 year old male, 98 year old female, 88 year old female, 67 year old female, 100 year old female, 73 year old male, 62 year old male, 85 year old male, 62 year old male, and a 83 year old female.

Our thoughts are with the loved ones of each of the people who have passed away and with the medical staff who cared for them. Please help save lives by following the public health guidance.

Comorbidity information is not reported out of respect for those that have lost their loved ones. Many people that have passed away have had mild comorbidity. Had they not become infected with COVID-19 they still had a long life expectancy with their mild comorbidity. Examples of mild comorbidity include things like pre-diabetes, mild obesity, mild hypertension or other controlled medical conditions that would have still allowed them to live longer lives.

Our heroes wear masks! These special people serve in the ICU at the Ventura County Medical Center. Here they are finding joy in a sunset from a hospital window as they work long hours saving lives. Let’s do whatever it takes to help them out. We know you’re tired of Covid. We are too. These people are working hard to fight it and save lives. They bring joy to people in crisis and show up during the worst of times. They want you to stay safe. Please slow the spread.

Local Vaccine Information

Ventura County Residents or those that work in our County can register for vaccines if they are in Phase 1a Tier 1, 2, 3. If you are not in the current phase do not register. When you show up at the vaccine site you will have to show proof that you are in the current phase and that you live or work in our County.

65 and older are not in the current phase.

Proof of being in the current tiers is required at the vaccination site. Please only register if you are in the current phase. Please do not take an appointment for someone in the current phase. The State portal may allow you to register even if you’re not in the current phase but you will not be able to get a vaccination at the site unless you are in Phase 1a Tier 1,2 or 3.

The County of Ventura is seeking volunteers to assist with COVID-19 vaccinations. The State of California has provided a list of authorized vaccinators. If you are interested and listed on the form as an authorized vaccinator please complete and submit the Volunteer Vaccinator Interest Form.

Alarms sounding, people talking and I pick up the phone to hear your name for the first time.

The nurse on the line asks to come up, frustration in her voice, but I won’t give up hope.

We meet for the first time, I see the fear in your eyes. Under all this plastic and shield, I hold your hand in an attempt to make this more human and less cold.

So many things begin to happen, all that you could have anticipated, all is much worse.

Painful procedures, so much information, so many signatures, so much discomfort. All you ask for is water and the answer is “sorry, nothing by mouth right now,” you smile and comfort me by telling me “it’s ok.”

I explain that you will have to lay on your stomach and you tell me of your surgeries and how painful that would be, all I can do is tell you that this needs to be done and place a mask on your face. Your high fever makes the move even more painful and you begin to cough uncontrollably into your mask.

We did it! pillows, gels, air mattress, you are on your belly and you begin to cry; I hold your hand again and you ask me to pray; I tell myself not to cry and to be your rock.

I begin to pray for your condition to improve and for God to guide us in your care. You are thankful and my voice breaks.

I won’t give up hope, I will give my all.

Time for me to exit your room, I leave your bed facing the door, I teach you how to use devices you are unfamiliar with, I ask if you want to call your family, you hesitate because you don’t want them to worry; I wonder how to tell you that you should call them, this could be your last chance.

I ask again and you agree to call, I hear your spouse crying as I exit the room. After peeling off all the layers, I stand outside your room and wave and smile at you under my mask in an attempt to show you that you are not alone.

I call you to let you know that my shift is over and that I will be back in the morning, you shower me with blessings and tell me to stay safe until we meet again.

Driving home with the windows down in silence with my thoughts, I wonder what the night might bring for you, I begin to cry, I don’t want you to take a turn for the worse, I wonder about your family, about your thoughts.

We meet again, and this time your condition is much worse, you can hardly stay awake and you are battling the toughest battle of your life. You don’t know I am entering your room, I pray for you, I still won’t give up hope.

I hold your hand and feel life escaping your body and tell you to keep fighting, that we are in this battle with you and that we must meet again.

The day brought much chaos and despair, but then your therapy begins to work and there’s a ray of hope in your fate. The ray of hope is quickly overshadowed by a long journey of much frustration and despair; we are doing all we can just as you wished because you want to see your family again.

The last words you spoke to me were: “I want to go home.”

Your life escaping, we try until the options have ran out. I guide your wife and daughter to the hallway where they must stand away from you and I watch them cry.

My heart hurts and your daughter turns towards me and asks for a hug; I gently explain that I should not hug her to prevent contagion.

She looks at me and thanks me, she has your same exact eyes, the eyes I have been looking at for the last month, the eyes that cried for her and the same eyes I saw life escaping from. I tell her that I want to hug her and she says “It’s ok.”

I know you are in a better place now, and I wonder if you know that you will stay with me in my thoughts until we meet again.

El personal en los hospitales de cuidado agudo que tienen contacto con los pacientes recibirán las primeras vacunas sin tomar en cuenta el estatus en la jerarquía médica (el personal incluye a todos los trabajadores que trabajan en las unidades individuales: limpieza, mantenimiento, seguridad, empleados de la unidad, enfermeros, médicos, técnicos, terapeutas quirúrgicos, técnicos de laboratorios, etc.):

Personal de las Unidades de Cuidados Intensivos

Personal de unidad de retención de COVID

Personal de Sala de Urgencias

Enfermeros de registro que trabajan en las unidades mencionadas arriba

Todos los demás trabajadores de cuidado de salud en los hospitales de cuidado agudo (enfermeros, limpieza, mantenimiento, seguridad, empleados de la unidad, técnicos, terapeutas quirúrgicos, técnicos de laboratorio, etc.)

Personal en los Centros de Enfermería Especializada, Centros de Vida Asistida y lugares similares que se han registrado con el Programa Federal de Participación Farmacéutica (que ha contratado a Walgreens y CVS para administrar las vacunas en estos sitios) para vacunar al personal y a los residentes al mismo tiempo.

Residentes en Centros de Enfermería Especializada, Centros de Vida Asistida y lugares similares para personas mayores o que son medicamente vulnerables.

Personal y residentes en lugares de vivienda de grupos con necesidades especiales.

Paramédicos, Técnicos de Emergencia Medica

Centros de Diálisis

Los que administran las vacunas

Fase 1A, Nivel 2

Personal en los Centros de Cuidado Intermedios para las personas que necesitan supervisión de enfermería no continua o cuidados de apoyo.

Los residentes en los Centros de Cuidado Intermedios para las personas que necesitan supervisión de enfermería no continua o cuidados de apoyo.

Centros de Cuidado Intermedio que se han registrado con el Programa Federal de Participación Farmacéutica (que ha contratado a Walgreens y CVS para administrar las vacunas en estos sitios) para vacunar al personal y a los residentes al mismo tiempo.

Clínicas de Atención Primaria, incluyendo clínicas federalmente calificadas, centros de salud rurales y clínicas de cuidado urgente en los códigos postales de 93015, 93030, 93033, 93036, 93040 y 93060. (Aunque hay muchos códigos postales con números de casos elevados, estos son los 6 con una tasa de más de 50 y que han sido centros de tasas elevadas aun antes del aumento.)
