Nov. 18 — SBCC Atkinson Gallery to present artist talk with Amanda Ross-Ho

The Atkinson Gallery at Santa Barbara City College is pleased to present an Artist Talk by Amanda Ross-Ho via Zoom on Wednesday, Nov. 18 at 4:00 p.m.

Ross-Ho, who works and lives in Los Angeles, appropriates images and ephemera that she encounters to construct installations, stage photographs and build sculptures where everyday experiences are transformed into sites of layered meaning. In her own words, she aims to, “investigate the anatomy and life cycle of creative production.” For the 2008 California Biennial, she transported the actual walls of her then-East L.A. studio into the galleries of the Orange County Museum of Art; she later re-created the installation at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago, in 2010.

Her work has been exhibited throughout the U.S. and internationally, including galleries and museums in London, Paris, Glasgow and other major cities in Europe.

In a recent interview Director of the Atkinson Gallery John Connelly commented, “As one of the most respected and acclaimed contemporary artists of her generation we are very lucky to have Amanda Ross-Ho share with our SBCC community personal insights into her art and studio practice. Ross-Ho has a unique ability to engage and draw in the viewer using common visual motifs and tropes while always surprising us with her inventive use of materials and scale. Like an anthropological alchemist, she is able to reveal the humor, the inspiration and the bathos in the commonplace and extraordinary alike.”

Ross-Ho is currently Associate Professor of Sculpture at the University of California, Irvine.
