A Building Together entry from Genesis in Guadalupe: “Home means love, family, movies.”
Dear Friend,
This past Saturday was going to be the end of our special online event “Building Together”. I say ‘was’, because due to its heartwarming success, and overwhelming requests to keep it up and running, we have decided to continue accepting submissions! If you have not yet had a chance to see what “home means” to people across our nation, and in some cases around the globe, you will not want to miss it, so check out the Building Together pages and even consider a submission yourself, if you haven’t already!Speaking of success, due to the speedy response and support from community foundations, corporate partners, and individual donors, we have been able to help so many of our residents who have found themselves in financial need due to COVID-19. In just one three-day period last month, we were able to assist over 100 families with food expenses, rental support, and emergency medical costs.Although we are seeing regional modifications to stay at home orders, the impacts of the coronavirus are going to be with all of us for many months to come. With some parents asked to return to work, children will still need caring for and although certain members of the community are taking those first steps outside of the home, many seniors remain isolated. We want to be able to continue to support those most vulnerable. Gifts to the Resident Assistance Fund have made life bearable for so many of our residents, please continue lending your generous support.

Although COVID-19 has ravaged our nation, here at PSHH we have much to be grateful for. Each one of our 208 staff members have remained employed, sickness has been confined to only a few, and our residents have been well-supported. I know that we have weeks, possibly months ahead of us to adapt to the aftermath of this pandemic, and the new normal we will find ourselves in, however I remain cautiously optimistic that together we will rise to the occasion.

Signing off in gratitude,
John

Welcoming New Home Owners in San Miguel!
Earlier in May, after many months of hard work, our final group of owner-builder families at Mission Gardens in San Miguel completed construction! They celebrated with a special, socially-distanced ceremony, where they received keys to their new homes, house-warming gifts, and some homemade masks!

Building Together: What Home Means to Me

By popular demand, we are keeping ‘Building Together’ open-ended! Please continue submitting your creations, sharing what home means to you, and making your generous gifts in support of a PSHH resident facing a medical, food, or utility emergency.

Once again, thank you for all your kindness and interest and keep checking the neighborhood gallery for new entries. We are loving sharing this moment with you; we are building something memorable… and we are building it together.
