CANCELED — March 22 — Annual Cesar E. Chavez Memorial March for Justice to be held in Oxnard

OXNARD — The United Farm Workers and community organizations cordially invites the Oxnard Community to join us in honoring the legacy of “Cesar E. Chavez” and to participate in the annual memorial march from Cesar E. Chavez Elementary School at 224 N. Juanita Street to downtown Oxnard arriving at Plaza Park. We will be parading on Sunday, March 22th out of the Colonia area ending up at the Oxnard Plaza Park. A special pre- rally will kick off the march at 10:30 am. followed by the parade lead by Aztec Danzantes followed by the United Farm Workers and the new UFW President Teresa Romero and the Oxnard Community of supporters.

This memorial celebration and parade march has been organized in collaboration with the following community organizations: United Farm Workers (UFW), UFW Foundation, Clinicas, Inlakech Cultural Arts Center, ILWU Credit Union, local MECHA clubs, and LULAC.

Over 400 farm workers lost their jobs at the local mushroom plant this year. A big

blow to the local UFW office; facing closure as a consequence. The continued deportations of thousands of individuals every year that affect many hard working families. Families are being separated and are not able to see each other for months, even years at a time. Children are also being put into foster care while wondering what happened to their parents. There are people who have been in the country for 10 to 15 years never leaving because they fear deportation and are unable to see or visit their loved ones even at a time of death. The stories of family separation are reoccurring and the deportations of hard working individual and family separations continue, we need to be part of the conversation to insure the best possible solutions to an inclusive reform is put in place that benefits our communities and families. Undocumented workers contribute to our local economy and many pay taxes, their children (some known as Dreamers) attend the local schools and grow up in this culture. We will be celebrating the legacy of “Cesar E. Chavez” by unveiling a historical landmark monument to be built at the new Clinicas del Camino Real clinic in south Oxnard spearheaded by their CEO Roberto Juarez. We encouraging everyone to support his endeavors by taking bring your families to the march.

Thanks to our donors and supporters absorbing the cost for the benefit of our communities.
