Oxnard Performing Arts Center has new operator!

Canyon at Oxnard to present first event: Tierra & Malo (April 10)

OXNARD — The Oxnard City Council on Feb. 18 approved a five-year operating agreement with Sterling Venue Ventures (SVV) for the Oxnard Performing Arts Center’s 1,604-seat auditorium. A second five-year agreement was also approved for SVV to operate the eight meeting rooms of the Community Center in conjunction with the Oxnard Performing Arts Center Corporation (OPACC). The 6-0 vote (with 1 abstention) concludes a tumultuous chapter in the venue’s history. Due to budgetary constraints, the City of Oxnard originally proposed closing The PACC in late Spring of last year.

More commonly known as The Canyon Club, SVV presents concerts at eight different venues throughout Southern California, including its own branded venues and at other city-owned facilities including Burbank’s Starlight Bowl, Ojai’s Libbey Bowl, and Beverly Hills’ Saban Theater. Oxnard residents can expect 52 concerts of diverse talent and genres such as Rock n’ Roll, R&B, Latin, tribute acts, comedy, and much more in the first year. SVV will work towards presenting 104 concerts a year. The company is owned by longtime Ventura County residents Lance Sterling and his wife, Caryn.

SVV and OPACC originally teamed up as an applicant in the City’s Request for Proposals for a new operator for the center. That proposal process was closed in December after the selected applicant, VenueTech, withdrew from consideration. For the last several months, SVV and OPACC have been working together on a new operational model that will be sustainable, accessible, community-minded, and dynamic. OPACC is committed to complementing Canyon concerts with rich cultural programming, community center management, and raising funds to produce artistic events and enhance the facilities.

Previous and new users of the facility – brides-to-be, resident companies, nonprofits, dance companies, school districts, businesses, promoters, and residents – are welcome to rent the PACC facilities for their special functions. New rates, as approved by the City Council, have been introduced for the Community Center.

The Canyon at Oxnard has announced its first events: Tierra & Malo (April 10), Tank (April 11), Which One’s Pink? Pink Floyd Tribute (April 18), Metalachi (May 16), and Mike Epps (July 24). Tickets for Canyon events can be purchased online through Ticketmaster, over the phone by calling 888-645-5006, or in person at the Agoura Hills Canyon Club.
