On Saturday, January 18, 2020, visualize “Your New Year Muse” with the help of teaching artist Jodi Bogart from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. This painting and journaling workshop will include a step-by-step process to help you identify your core desires, tap into your passions, and shape your new year! The cost of class is $45.00 per person. All skill levels and all students ages 16 and over are welcome. Preregistration is required.
On Saturday, January 25, 2020, teens ages 13-18 can discover the power of their own stories during a free “Teen Acting and Storytelling Workshop” from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Led by film and television actor Justin Johnson, teens will explore the craft of storytelling through exercises and activities, focusing on the Meisner acting method and others. The workshop is free, but space is limited. All teens ages 13-18 are welcome. Preregistration is required.
Beginning Wednesday, February 5, 2020, the Santa Paula Art Museum will offer four opportunities to build whole-child skills, spend quality time, and nurture a love of creativity and art during a “Mommy/Daddy and Me” class for parents with children ages 4 and under. The class will be offered from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on four Wednesday mornings in February: Wednesday, February 5, 2020; Wednesday, February 12, 2020; Wednesday, February 19, 2020; and Wednesday, February 26, 2020. The class is designed for small children up to age 4 with an adult partner (up to two kids per adult). Prices vary as parents can choose to register for one session ($8.00-$10.00) or all four sessions ($25.00-$35.00). Preregistration is required.
Students can learn the basics of landscape oil painting in the four-part “Landscapes in Oil: Essential Skills” course taught by artist Gabriel Islas. The four-part series will be taught from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on four Saturdays in February: Saturday, February 8, 2020; Saturday, February 15, 2020; Saturday, February 22, 2020; and Saturday, February 29, 2020. Islas will teach the basic elements of composition, color and value, atmospheric perspective, and traditional techniques in oil painting. The cost of the four-part class is $140.00 per person. All skill levels and all students ages 16 and over are welcome. Preregistration is required.
On Saturday, March 21, 2020, welcome spring and invite nature into your home with an “Eco Flower Printing” class from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Using the eco-dye technique, students will work with seasonal flowers and plant-based pigments such as indigo and turmeric to create beautiful prints on natural fabrics. The cost of class is $40.00 per person. All skill levels and all students ages 12 and over are welcome. Preregistration is required.
The Santa Paula Art Museum occupies two historic buildings located at 117 N 10th Street and 123 N 10th Street in downtown Santa Paula. The Museum features rotating exhibitions of vintage and contemporary art, art classes for children and adults, monthly Free Family Days, creative community events, a well-curated gift shop and more. Regular museum hours are Wednesday through Saturday from 10:00am to 4:00pm, and Sunday from 12:00pm to 4:00pm.
