Dr. Raymond Neutra joins us at the Museum of Ventura County this Thursday, October 10, 2019 from 6:30—8 p.m. for a Lecture & Book Signing on his book, “Cheap and Thin: Neutra and Frank Lloyd Wright”. Coinciding with the Museum’s latest exhibit, California Cool: Mid-century Modernism on the Central Coast, arrive early to explore the exhibit before the lecture. Admission is free for Museum members, $5 for nonmembers.
Día de los Muertos at the Agriculture Museum!
Día de los Muertos returns to the Agriculture Museum in Santa Paula on Sunday, November 3, 2019 from 11—3 p.m.
The Agriculture Museum will host the Consulate of Mexico in Oxnard on November 3, 2019, and visitors will experience performances by the traditional Aztec dance group Danza Mexica Cuauhtemoc, as well as music by Mariachi Inlakech and local harpist and artist Xavier Montes. Families can visit the agriculture inspired Dia de los Muertos altar installation and participate in traditional Day of the Dead crafts such as making Papel Picado cut paper designs and create tissue paper flowers, plus so much more. Traditional pan dulce & mazapán y tamarindos will be served and shaved ice delights will be available from the Kona Ice Truck. Admission is free to the public.
The Museum of Ventura County at 100 E. Main St. in Ventura will also host a Día de los Muertos celebration on Friday, November 1, 2019 from 6—9 p.m. In collaboration with the Consulate of Mexico in Oxnard and the Museum’s Latino Advisory Committee, the Museum will host an evening of remembrance with several community designed altars, music, dance performance and refreshments. Admission is free for Museum members, $5 for non-members

The 36th annual self-guided Ojai Studio Artists Tour – one of the premier art events in California – is set for October 12, 13 & 14. Showcasing a bevy of local painters, sculptors, jewelers, ceramists, a woodworker, digital, glass and fiber artists, the 2019 Studio Tour will be captivating. As in the past two years, many studios will be open on Monday.
Over 60 studios throughout the enchanting Ojai Valley will be open each day from 10am to 5pm, with artist demonstrations at select studios. For early arrivals and locals, be our guest at the highlighted “Pre-Tour Artist Profiles” event. Led by an OSA artist, the program introduces the work of each Tour artist and is designed to assist people in planning their Tour schedules.
This year included is a special exhibit, “Origins,” at the Ojai Valley Museum. The Gala Reception will also be held at the museum on Saturday night and is complimentary for all Tour artists and ticket-holders. The event is both an opportunity to socialize with OSA artists and a fundraiser for OSA’s “ArtReach Program,” featuring beautiful raffle baskets filled with original OSA art and distinctive local products, such as Ojai honey, olive oil and lavender.
Proceeds from the Tour and Raffle fund OSA’s youth art scholarships and community arts needs.
Tour tickets are $35 in advance, $40 day of event, $25/person for groups of 10 or more, $15 for students, 17 & under free, and cover studio visits all three days and admission to Saturday’s Reception and Sunday Social.
