June 1 — Ventura County Community Development Corp. to present 7th annual Homeownership Fair

OXNARD — The Ventura County Community Development Corp. in Oxnard is hosting a free Homeownership Fair for the community, sponsored by City National Bank and others. Local families in Ventura County will have access to a multitude of resources and will be able to speak with counselors to start their journey toward homeownership or get help with financing their current home.

VCCDC’s mission is to empower families to individuals and families to build wealth through education and homeownership. The fair focuses on helping low to moderate income families, who often find the idea of becoming homeowners an impossible dream. VCCDC continues to play a critical role in addressing the housing crisis in our community by creating pathways to affordable homeownership opportunities and financial stability. Angelica Barajas and Marcos Albarran are one of the families that VCCDC has empowered to become homeowners.

“Without VCCDC we would be lost. They helped us find $15,000 in down payment, we increased our credit score by 150 points and learned a lot with the counselors.”– Angelica Barajas, VCCDC Homeowner

Marcos and Angelica had been working hard for many years but never thought they would be in a position to buy their own home. They weren’t sure where to even begin. Marcos and Angelica decided to start by meeting with Gaby, one of VCCDC’s Homeownership Counselors. From there, they attended the Homebuyer Workshop to learn more about the process and realized that homeownership didn’t seem so impossible and they felt that they had a clear path forward.

With the guidance of Gaby and the team at VCCDC, Marcos increased his credit score by over 150 points within just a few months. Both Angelica and Marcos learned useful strategies to save for their home and were also able to access a $15,000 WISH grant to put towards their down payment thanks to VCCDC’s special programs. Moreover, Gaby walked Angelica and Marcos through the whole process until they successfully purchased their home earlier this year and moved the family in!

The family of five now lives in their new home in Oxnard and are enjoying all the benefits that homeownership brings; long term financial security, peace of mind and stability for the children. Angelica feels like they are now living ‘the American Dream’ like they always wanted.

“It was hard work but VCCDC clarified exactly what we needed to do so that we could buy our dream house!” – Marcos Albarran, VCCDC Homeowner

The fair will provide information on the following:

  • Access to thousands of dollars in down-payment assistance
